Overview
Associate Producer — Is This Thing On?
Part-time / Freelance | New York City / Hybrid
Is This Thing On? is an original solo theatrical show created and performed by Adam Bradley. Following its initial development and successful performances in Philadelphia and New York City, the show is entering its next phase: building a recurring presence in New York, exploring performances in select additional markets, growing its audience and visibility, and determining how large a life the show can have.
We’re looking for an exceptional Associate Producer to help make that happen.
This is a hands-on role for someone who is highly organized, proactive, resourceful and excited by the opportunity to help build something at an early and evolving stage. The Associate Producer will work closely with Adam and the show's existing creative and producing team to turn priorities into action and keep the many moving pieces of the production moving forward.
What you'll do
- Drive execution against the show's production and growth priorities, maintaining clear workplans, timelines and accountability.
- Research and coordinate potential theaters, presenters and performance opportunities in New York and other markets.
- Help plan and execute individual engagements, including venue coordination, scheduling, travel, production logistics and local resources.
- Coordinate across the show's creative, production, marketing and PR partners.
- Support audience-development and marketing efforts around performances, working with internal and external resources.
- Help maintain relationships and follow-up with venues, industry contacts, partners, donors and other stakeholders.
- Research opportunities and bring recommendations—not simply wait for assignments.
- Maintain the show's core operating materials, calendars, contact lists, budgets and other organizational systems.
- Identify issues early, drive follow-through and make sure important things don't fall through the cracks.
Who we're looking for
You may currently be an Associate Producer, Producing Associate, Company Manager, General Management
Associate or working in a similar role in theater or live entertainment.
More important than the title, we're looking for someone who
- Has meaningful professional experience in theater, live performance or a closely related field.
- Is exceptionally organized and reliable.
- Has a strong sense of urgency and follows through.
- Takes ownership and enjoys turning an idea into a completed result.
- Is comfortable operating independently and figuring things out.
- Communicates clearly and keeps others appropriately informed without needing to be chased.
- Can manage multiple workstreams simultaneously while maintaining attention to detail.
- Understands the New York theater ecosystem; experience with regional productions, touring or festivals is a plus.
- Has good judgment, low ego and a collaborative working style.
- Is excited by the opportunity to help build the infrastructure around an original show as its future develops.
We're not looking for someone for whom this needs to be their only project. We understand that freelance theater professionals typically work across multiple productions. We are looking for someone who, during the hours committed to Is This Thing On?, brings real ownership, responsiveness and momentum.
The opportunity
This is not a traditional production with a predetermined closing date. The next phase of Is This Thing On? is intentionally exploratory: continue putting the show in front of audiences, learn where and how it works, build its track record and relationships, and create opportunities for its next stage.
For the right person, that means an unusual opportunity to join early, work directly with the creator and existing team, and play a meaningful role in building the show's future.
Details
